On the day of your Test, lots of exciting and scarey things are going to happen to you. You should arrive five (5) minutes early, sets a good example. What you need to bring with you depends on the LIcence Test you are about to undertake. I have listed the two (2) common types of Licence Assessment that are conducted at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre and/or Agency.

Probationary Licence Test (Standard)

On the day of your test you need to bring your current car learner permit as Evidence of Identity. If your car learner permit card is unavailable you need to bring original evidence of identity documents. Also, dont forget your fees for the licence. If you havent paid for your Test, it will need to be paid prior to the Test . All of your other details such as your Knowledge (KT2) Test and your Hazard Perception Test (HPT) are stored on the Driver Licensing System (Database). Also anything you own or have been issued via VicRoads is on there, including all vehicles registered to you.

Overseas Licence Conversion Test

The requirement to change your overseas driver licence to a Victorian driver licence depends on whether your stay in Victoria is temporary or permanent.

If you are in Victoria on a temporary visa, you can drive on your overseas driver licence (it must be current and valid) for an indefinite period provided your overseas driver licence is in English (or you have an accompanying English translation or International Driving Permit).

If you are in Victoria on a permanent visa issued under the Migration Act 1958, you may drive on your overseas driver licence for:

  • six months from the date you first entered Australia (if the permanent visa was issued before you entered Australia); or,
  • six months from the date when the permanent visa was issued to you (if the permanent visa was issued to you in Australia)

If you want to continue driving in Victoria after this time you must hold a valid Victorian driver licence.
New Zealand residents who hold a current licence are treated as interstate drivers.
