INJURY MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Incident Reporting and Investigation

When injuries do occur it is vital that you have an incident reporting and investigation process implemented in order to monitor long term trends and minimise immediate impacts. By outsourcing said processes you can always be sure, regardless of your companies staff changes, that incident reports will be consistent, kept on record, and have a specialist team that will identify trends as they occur and provide recommendations. Furthermore, by utilising the investigation process, a Health Portal specialist will be able to provide early intervention and recommendations to start the rehabilitation of an injured employee, thus reducing impact to work place productivity.

Initial Workplace Conference

The Initial Workplace Conference is ideally completed within 72 hours of being notified of an incident. The participants discuss the mechanism of injury, the injured worker’s treatment plan, and identify available suitable duties, while also addressing barriers to return to work. The Initial Workplace Conference guides the formulation of a graded Return to Work Plan.

 Activities of Daily Living Assessment

Given that not all injuries are the same, the functional capacity of injured persons will differ, as such, the Activities of Daily Living Assessment analyses an injured individuals’ ability to carry out domestic and personal hygiene activities. The assessment generates a report identifying the degree to which an individual is limited and makes recommendations for home modification and/ or personal assistance. Knowing the limitations and making accommodations, will lead to a faster recovery and higher morale.

Case Management Services

Injured personnel utilising workers compensation are a cost to both insurer and employer. Health Portals’ Case Management Service is a specialised and holistic service designed to minimise costs to both parties, as well as achieve and sustain a timely and safe return to work for the injured employee.

The order of preference for individuals’ returning to work is:
        Same job, same employer;
        Modified job, same employer;
        Different job, same employer;
        Same job, different employer;
        Similar job, different employer; and
        Different job, different employer.

Case Management Service components can be utilised individually and include the following:

Initial Interview - the Initial Interview is tailored to meet insurer Service Level Agreements and culminates with a report and recommendations.

Case Conference - performed when insurers need, however, Health Portal specialist are trained to identify and subsequently request when a Case Conference would be of benefit, however, these must be approved by the insurer.

Workplace Assessment - culminating in a Workplace Assessment Report and a Suitable Duties Plan, the assessment identifies a graded return to work for the claimant.

Functional Capacity Assessment - primarily accessed during re-deployment activities, Health Portal, utilises both qualitative and quantitative assessment tools to measure the claimants’ functional abilities and restrictions.
