Planning a Garden or Planting a Tree… a must read.
For any one planning a garden who has a vision which includes beautiful mature trees like the ones in the Botanical Gardens or Arboretum ( Tree Museum), the first thing you should do is employ the services of a fully qualified Arboricultural Consultant.
This comes before you employ a landscaper/builder and do you plans.
Visit the Arboretum or Botantical Gardens to see what various species look like when mature as it often very hard to tell from the label or imagine when they are saplings. Adelaide has it’s own Arboretum on Cross road Urrbrae, it has 2700 trees and tours on the first Sunday of every month. It is an amazing place and well worth visiting to see what various trees look like when mature ,this will help give you the idea of what you want.
Arboricultural consultants specialize in all things trees from the right species for your site, trees for shade, flowers & bird attracting, soil condition, species which are suited to our climate, whether trees are a risk and the list goes on… they are really the experts and worth their weight in gold for a consultation in the first stages.
Beautiful Healthy mature trees can add up to 20% to your property value. They can be a valuable asset.
Also and very importantly trees come in a HUGE variety of shapes and sizes- Size is of paramount importance as saplings can look very innocent and little do you realize that in 20 years time they may be 3 times taller than your house or on the opposite end of the scale you feed water and do everything in your power to make them grow and they just never do and yes there is a reason ( ask a consultant)- Relying on the label is often not enough.
There are so many considerations to make when choosing a tree, a consultant can make this a simple and easy process- they will also tell you how to care for your tree so it will have a much higher chance of being as beautiful as Botanical Gardens or Arboretum trees.
Unfortunately many of the trees we remove are due to the wrong tree being planted in the wrong spot, or it is too close to a building , not having room for it’s root system or was not properly cared for.
It always such a shame for us because we know if our client had spent a few hundred dollars in the first place they would not be spending up to a few thousand for us to remove the tree because it has become a big problem. Many people do not realise this can be avoided by getting the experts out to see what will work and what won’t.
Whether you would like a feature tree that has beautiful flowers, a tree for shade, or one that contributes to our unique biodiversity an arboricultural consultant will be able to advise the best tree for your Garden.
