Laanecoorie offers a 20Ha bushland heritage sojourn remote from everyday intrusions while only an hour from Melbourne CBD and 15 minutes from the ever popular St Andrews market. Our sanctuary is dedicated to the restoration of the original and beautiful local biodiversity of the Diamond Valley catchment, which has been so ravaged since settlement and is now in danger of extinction.
Here nature is your therapist as you stroll along peaceful walks or more challenging tracks. Ideal retreat for lovers of the outdoors and groups, up to ten seeking a friendly, well equipped, venue for their pursuits.
Our purpose-built B&B, the octagonal mudbrick ‘Wurlie’ ( Aboriginal for overnight shelter), comprises four well appointed suites each with mountain views together with a full laundry, all having individual entrances from an encompassing verandah. Generous breakfast baskets to suit individual tastes are provided daily. For other meals on site, in addition to self-catering, there are packages for groups of four or more guests.
The adjacent ‘Quint’ Nature Studio with lounge, dining, kitchen, wood fire, library, high definition overhead projector and computer consoles enhances venue versatility for individual and group indoor pursuits and entertainment. Undercover and bush barbeques plus potbelly snugs are available.
Your hosts Leonie and Don Hatton have been involved in community conservation for 40 years. Laanecoorie was acquired and named in 1984. A forum of ecologists endorsed the Biota Haven concept in 1998 and Nillumbik's Mayor welcomed it in 2000 as an ecologically sustainable enterprise encouraging local ( walking track) ecotourism.
Please note: Laanecoorie is a non-smoking site
